Edmondstown Golf Club Captains' Charity: The Gavin Glynn Foundation
This year's Captains' Charity is chosen in honour of 8-year-old Michael Horgan, a neighbour and family friend of Captain Gerry, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour last October. Michael’s mum, Anne, is also a work colleague of Gerry and Michael was Anne, and her husband Conor’s, only child.
During his illness Michael benefitted from the services of the Gavin Glynn Foundation, which has helped over 250 families of children battling cancer to travel overseas for treatment not available in Ireland. The Foundation believes that all children with cancer deserve the best care, wherever in the world that might be.
Sports-mad Michael derived great enjoyment in his final months from both playing and watching golf. A stand-out moment was playing the 9th at the K Club with his hero Rory McIlroy during last year's Irish Open Pro-Am, a dream made possible by the Make -a-Wish Foundation (see video below).
We both believe that the Gavin Glynn Foundation is a very worthy Edmondstown Captains’ Charity for 2024.
